Myths about black women and black men skin care - revealed!

 

There are many myths and misconceptions surrounding black women and black men skin care.

One of the main reasons for much of the confusion comes from the fact that there is a very large ethnic diversity that exists in this category.

There are many shades, colors, and varieties included under the black women and black women umbrella.

One myth about black women and black men skin relates to sunburn. Even though black skin usually contains more protective melanin (pigment), it is still susceptible to sun damage.

The range of skin types is very broad for people of color; it ranges from Fitzpatrick skin type II (usually burns, rarely tans) to Fitzpatrick VI (very darkly pigmented).

No matter what skin type we have, everyone should avoid intense sunlight, wear protective clothing, and cover exposed skin. People with black skin can also get skin cancer.

The risk of skin cancer (melanoma) is than it is for people with white skin, nevertheless the risk still exist.

Dry skin needs to be moisturized regardless of your skin color. Creams are better than lotions, and petroleum jelly is recommended if skin is really dry.

Breaks in the skin may leave behind a dark spot. These spots can be lightened with bleaching creams or if left alone they will eventually fade away.
